How was your first week of 2018?

I was chatting to a very important person on my life yesterday and he looked at me dead pan and said – “how was your first week of 2018?”… To be honest I had to think of it for a bit before I could actually answer. I mean it was a new year that started on a Monday making it pretty much THE perfect opportunity to start the new year with a massively productive week, but what had I achieved.

I struggled over this for a while. I think there is so much pressure (probably just my own) to start the new year in the best way possible, but thinking about it I realised had achieved nothing. I had done nothing in the first week of 2018 that would help me this year, push me in any way or make me a better person.

As I started to feel less than impressed with myself and the way I had spent the week, I stopped. One of my 2018 goals was not to put myself down. I stopped thinking about what I hadn’t done and started thinking about what I had done. All of a sudden the negativity dissipated and a wave of positivity came flooding in.

I had the best week I have had in a long time. I spent the first week of the year surrounded by people I love. I spent New Years day celebrating my Dad’s birthday with family from all over the world and dear friends followed by an amazing trip down to Albany with my gorgeous man. I then spent a day with my niece, sister, her partner and his family exploring Penguin Island off the coast of Perth and spent a night in with my girlfriends. We took my granny (who, might I add, travelled at 89 from South Africa to visit us) to see Elizabeth Quay and spent Sunday (aka the last day of the first week of 2018) relaxing on the beach with my amazing family.

So while I may not have achieved anything in the first week of 2018 I feel more relaxed than ever, happy, content and ready for an extremely productive year. I think that is something to celebrate don’t you?

Going into the second week of 2018 I have big plans. Big plans for this blog, big plans for my future and big plans for myself. At the end of last year I was gifted a stunning planner from Bullet Planner for 2018. I started using this planner towards the end of last year to pop down appointments and important dates, but I have just started using it properly and I am absolutely obsessed.

The planner is so easy to use and the lists next to the calendar mean I can see everything clearly. The planner is also full of other pages such as holiday planning pages, birthday pages, place to write your Christmas gifts, books to read, growth plans and habit trackers. The Journals have personalised covers and the pages are created to your liking too. If you’ve ever wanted to try a bullet journal, but didn’t know where to start then this is for you. I am slowly getting into the swing of the year with my diary, colour co-ordinated pens and ‘let’s go’ attitude.

If you had a relaxing first week of 2018 then you go girl! If you had one of the most productive weeks of your life then good on you babe. Whatever you did last week I hope you enjoyed it. Here’s to the best year yet.

Xoxo, P&P

  1. This is such an honest and refreshing post to read! I’m like you, I too spent the week relaxing and with family, and what we tend to forget is just how important this time actually is to help us to achieve our goals and be super productive for the rest of the year. Good on you for embracing it and not beating yourself up! All the best for the New Year!

  2. This is EXACTLY the kind of post we need to start the new year! While I wasn’t overly productive in the first week of 2018 I actually felt really good taking a much needed break and doing a whole lot of nothing! But I know what you mean, we see everyone else smashing goals and making plans and it’s easy to compare ourselves but nothing is more rewarding than spending precious time with family and friends :) x
